What's Happening In and Around Niagara

Winter 2007/2008

The cold wet weather of Winter generally starts in mid November and stays until the end of March, but don't let that stop you from visiting Niagara Falls. Winter around here is every bit as much fun as summer!

The Winter Festival of Lights runs from November 3, 2007 to January 7, 2008. A wintertime visit to Niagara Falls during the Winter Festival of Lights has become an annual tradition for area residence and draws more than 1 million visitors from around the world. The festival includes fireworks displaysconcerts and events, over 125 animated lighting displays, 3 million tree and ground lights and the world famous Enchantment of Disney displays.

New Year's Eve Extravaganza, December 31st.  Canada's largest New Year's Eve Party draws as many as 30,000 revelers. It's held outdoors at Queen Victoria Park overlooking the falls. Along with great music and entertainment, it features an outdoor licensed area, food and beverage vendors, and spectacular fireworks over the falls to ring in the New Year.

Gaming and Stage Shows. Niagara Falls Ontario is home to two Vegas Style Casinos; the huge Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort which includes the Avalon Theatre offering a year-round schedule of first-class entertainment; and the older, smaller but some say "more fun" Casino Niagara. Niagara Falls New York has the the Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel which includes the Seneca Events Centre offering big-name entertainment year-round.

Niagara Icewine Festival runs from January 18 to February 3, 2008. It celebrates one of Canada's most cherished exports- Niagara VQA Icewine. The festival takes place all along the Niagara Wine Route.

Toronto, Ontario and Buffalo, New York. For those willing to travel an hour or so outside of the Niagara area, Toronto or Buffalo may be an interesting day trip. Both cities offer theatres, museums, art galleries, night clubs, festivals, shopping and every other big city amenity you can think of, including major league sports. Toronto has the  Maple Leafs (NHL) and the Raptors (NBA). Buffalo has: the Sabres (NHL) and the Bills (NFL).

Most major attractions are open throughout the winter months with the exception of the Maid Of The Mist boat ride.
